More than 50 literature enthusiasts gathered on Thursday evening, 8 January 2026, for an evening of reading and discussion with the German author Simone Falk. Students from the European University Viadrina, as well as numerous residents of the twin city, listened to extracts from the novel ‘Und dann essen wir Żurek und fallen vom Himmel’ – read aloud in both German and Polish.
Students from Warsaw and Budapest visit the Polish Language Department
In the first week of June, 20 students from the University of Warsaw and Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest came to the twin cities for an in-depth exchange on the topic of ‘Neighbours and Borders’. They were welcomed by students who are learning the neighbouring language at the Polish language centre at Viadrina.
“Across Borders” was the apt title of an intercultural project week in which 30 students from Viadrina University, the University of Warsaw and Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest took part.

Ten German studies students from the University of Warsaw were welcomed to the twin cities by students from Viadrina from 1 to 4 June 2023 as part of an exchange programme. The theme of the visit was the experience of the German-Polish border.
