Language Learning

Overview of the Levels

At the Viadrina Language Centre, you can learn the languages required for your degree programme - and any other language that interests you. Our language courses are designed to be flexible so that you can easily integrate them into your daily study routine. All language courses at the Language Centre are free of charge for Viadrina students. Be inspired and discover new languages! If you need help choosing or have questions about your language learning path, the respective language department will be happy to advise you.

Our language training is based on the requirements of the UNIcert® training and certification system, which ensures uniform standards and comparable quality in language training and language examinations between universities in and, in some cases, outside Germany. The following text provides a simplified overview of the structure of the foreign language training programme. For more detailed advice, please contact the Language Departments.

ECTS credits for language courses (Only applies to exchange students)

You will only receive ECTS credits if you regularly attend a language course and pass the final examination for that course. In this case, you will receive 3 ECTS credits per 2 course hours (SWS). In other words:

4 SWS = 6 ECTS
6 SWS = 9 ECTS,
8 SWS = 12 ECTS

Bernd Schünow - Viadrina International Affairs, students-in@europa-uni.de, AM 208

For German: Barbara Rodríguez, Lektorat Deutsch, rodriguez@europa-uni.de, AB 023
For all other languages, please contact the head of the relevant language department.

ECTS points for language courses are not visible in the viaCampus portal. Please send your transcript of records from viaCampus (without ECTS) to Bernd Schünow. You will then receive a special transcript of records for exchange students with ECTS for your home university. More information...

The max. number of ECTS credits you can earn per course level (e.g. A2, B2.2 or C1) and language is limited to the number of hours required to complete that course level. For example, if you take 4 courses B2.2 English, you can still only earn 6 ECTS.
