Registration for language examinations - Read this first

IMPORTANT: Please familiarise yourself with the requirements needed to be eligible to register for the exams. Here you will find a brief overview of the requirements. It is merely a summary. You should also read the legally binding examination regulations


General information

1. The online registration begins three weeks before the date of the examination. 

2. Check the deadlines for registration.

3. Late registration is possible after paying a fee at the Language Centre's secretary's office. You may not register on the day of the exam.

Summary of requirements

 In order to be able to take the Examination for the Certificate "Language Proficiency for Higher Education"  ("Hochschulspezifische Fremdsprachenausbildung") or UNIcert® II students must:

  • be currently enrolled ("eingeschrieben") and matriculated at the European University Viadrina

  • at least two upper-intermediate ("Oberstufe") courses, or have achieved an "O-Star" level on the placement test (the result is valid two semesters)

The relevant Lektorat may grant exemptions from this requirement, on application of the student.


In order to be able to take the Examination in Academic Communication,  students must:

  • be currently enrolled ("eingeschrieben") and matriculated at the European University Viadrina

  • have successfully completed the Academic Communication courses (both Written and  Spoken Academic Communication) at this Language Centre and in the relevant language.

The Chair of the Examination Committee (Dr. Thomas Vogel) may grant exemptions from this requirement, on application of the candidate.

A UNIcert® III (Academic Communication) certificate  is issued, when a minimum of one of the Academic Communication courses has been  completed at the Viadrina Language Centre. If you were exempted from both courses, you can only receive an "Academic Communication" certificate (without UNIcert®).

Only students currently enrolled and matriculated at the European University Viadrina, and who have successfuly completed the relevant courses in German, will be allowed to take the Academic Communication Examination for German.

Exceptions to these rules are at the discretion of the  Chair of the Examination Committee (Dr. Vogel). Please write a letter or email of request, giving  proof of what alternative courses or exams you have done..



 A student will not be allowed to register for an examination if he has failed the examination the maximum number of times allowed.
